Fisherman take their boats, in pairs, out to sea. This village is dependent for its livelihood on the rich fishing grounds offshore. Everything that is caught is used: the fish is eaten fresh, smoked or dried, while the heads are used as chicken feed. A deal struck recently between the government of Senegal and the European Union, giving EU trawlers access to these seas, now threatens to upset the traditional, sustainable village economy.
