Chemists, biologists, botanists and geologists use the latest techniques to extract information from Egyptian mummies. In 1825 an Armenian adventurer who became Egypt's Minister of Finance presented a mummy to the Monastery of San Lazzaro, an ancient center of learning. These 3,500-year-old remains of a high-ranking official or priest have become the subject of intensive study.
