Pamela Sullentrup was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in January 2000, when she was aged 20. For three years she underwent several rounds of chemotherapy as well as radiation therapy and bone-marrow transplantation, but the cancer did not stay in remission. In January 2003 doctors recommended that she enter hospice care within the context of her own home.
